Managing a time of 2:52.9 (which could have been faster with a different driver) the M4 GTS did manage to achieve a faster time than the Porsche Cayman GT4 by 1.1 seconds. However the Porsche 911 GT3 RS, which everyone compares this to, set a time of 2:47, which was actually even faster than the McLaren 570S, the Mustang GT350R (2:51.8), and the Acura NSX (2:50.2).

What's the point in just aiming for 500? Even if you hit that it's not like you will have accomplished something but get in another 50hp+ and you will notice it.

For all we know 493 is the average number these make or the least it makes. Once a good number of them have done base line dyno runs then we'll be able to get some real numbers down and maybe even find out some are making more than reported from BMW.
Not necessarily. The extra 7hp give or take is definitely easy to achieve. But it's the tune itself that you'll feel. Not just looking for gains, but gains in different regions of the powerband, Moving the torque curve around, etc.
