I dont like the stop/start function. So every time i get in i have to manually press the button to turn it off.

No big deal i agree but can i program it so its default position is off?

Thanks

I'm also curious why people don't like it. I understand that it makes the car slightly less responsive but that is a small price to pay for the added efficiency and saving the planet just a little bit at a time IMO.

There should be a way to turn it off permanently if you want to do that though.

Yeah each to their own. I just don't like the very slight delay of getting power back. It works well just personal preference. I didn't buy a BMW to save the planet or be good on MPG. I bought it to drive.

Do you drive a manual or auto? I've got a manual so if I don't want it to stop I just leave it in gear
Auto.

I think in the US they can programme the car to be as per your last settings but i think due to eco/tax reasons they don't do this.

No big deal just a nice feature i would like.

I had stop/start on a manual, and quite liked it. Just held the clutch down and in gear if I wanted to override it - like if I could see the lights would change soon.

How does it work on the auto? Can it be temporarily overriden like above, or does it need to be switched off to do this?

ah so when you engage the car into Sports mode the auto stop start feature doesn't work. Ideal as i only ever have it in sports road as the ride is much much better.

Although i do have to change from comfort to sports mode every time the engine is turned on! So same issue i suppose!

Have had my 435i for a month, mppk, sport line, all available performance options. I turned my start stop off at dealership and it has never come on again??

On my US spec 428i xDrive Coupe (M Sport), it remembers the last key fob setting for comfort. So if I turn it off in comfort, it will remember that setting the next time I start the car indefinitely. However, once I change it to ECO PRO mode, it re-enables auto start/stop functionality as the default across both modes.

I also noticed that if you come to a stop by squeezing the brakes ever so slightly in ECO PRO or Comfort, auto start/stop will not engage. But if you then depress the brake firmly, it will engage (shut off the engine). So there is definitely an algorithm to the feature. I just wish they could desensitize it a bit, as I agree with most of you and find it annoying at times due to its hypersensitivity.

Our vehicles can be re-coded to do quite a few nice things which for some reason the manufacturer just doesn't want us to have access too as evidenced by the following being not well advertized. The list below are a few options a local (NC Triangle area) freelance coder is offering. I suggest you find a coder in your area, see what they can make happen and then give it a try. Keep in mind if/when you ever have your software updated/reprogrammed the codes will be overridden, but can be added back.

Here are many, but by no means all, of the things that are possible* (and probably the most popular):

Disable Auto Start/Stop by default (putting vehicle in Eco Pro mode will always turn it back on).
Disable iDrive disclaimer at start/open.
Turning off ignition unlocks all doors (only if they autolocked when driving away).
One-pull on driver's interior door handle opens and powers down electronics (if ignition is off).
Disable side marker lights when headlights on (this looks awesome at night with xenons).
Disable either or both initial seatbelt gongs and alarm if seatbelt not fastened while driving (can be coded independently for driver and passenger).
Change "three blink" turn signal into however many blinks you would like.
Allow dvd playback while car is in motion! (I advise against this but it's your choice)
Automatically fold in mirrors when locked with fob or CA (this can also be timed so that you have to press the fob/handle for a period of time, of
your choosing, before they fold). Mirrors will auto-unfold when car is unlocked.
Hold fob unlock to roll down both windows and sunroof.
Allow windows to continue rolling up/down when doors are opened.
Allow rear, 360 top view, and front side-view cameras to operate at all speeds (these can all be independently coded).
Hazard lights can blink either or both inside or outside brake lights.
Make fog lights active when turning (left one will light when turning left, right when turning right).
Display turn signals in HUD!**
Set timing on "comfort lighting" independently when car is locked/unlocked.
Change default automatic cruise control following distance (can only be set to one of the four presets but it can be any one of them).
Use your bluetooth phone's ringtone instead of the car ringtone.***
Allow video playback from usb flash sticks****

Check This Out...

Happy Labor Day. I'm not sure if this will work in everyone's vehicle, however on my way to the gym this morning I discovered at a traffic light that if you turn the wheel ever so slightly it will disable the start/stop feature (after vehicle is in "rest mode") allowing for uninterrupted starts without having to recode the car's ECU. Don't you just love this car? This is my fifth (5) one and I still continue to discover interesting things about the brand.

The latest batch of F32's come standard with a on/off button above the Engine Start button. You can manually turn off the engine stop/start function.

It is automatically activated when driving in Eco Pro mode. Yet you can turn it off with the "switch." When driving in comfort or any sport mode, the function is not enabled. So it is really a non-issue. BMW immediately reacted to consumer feedback.

To be honest it freaked me out the first time I drove and the engine shutdown at a red light. I was wondering how the heck do I get the car going again, did the car develop a serious malfunction etc. Multiple thoughts, but then it started up again when I released the break paddle. You quickly learn to work with the system.

I avoid using it, since I have a concern the starter motor may not last as long as I would like. With my luck the starter motor will die the minute the factory warranty expires.

2016 F36 compatible?

Hi guys, new to the forum and keen to gain some info on the below.
Do you still have the ncd files for these settings and do you know if they will work with 2016 F36?

Thanks in advance!
