The rumor mill has been abuzz over the M4 for some time now. Early reports had us thinking that the M4 would have as high as 450 horsepower that would be linked to a manual or dual clutch transmission.

Now the rumor has changed to none of this being true. We are now told that the M4 will be around 416 horsepower from an inline six. The part that may have people up in arms is that there will be no manual transmission offered at all.

Being a driver's car that could support a manual transmission if BMW wanted it to, it is sad that BMW decided against it.

Are you angry about this? Would you choose a manual transmission if given the option?

Most cars are sold as automatics these days. Not sure on an exact percentage. Pretty soon I think all cars are only going to come in automatics. Manuals will be a thing for old cars, and really special cars (I guess the M4 isn't special enough.)

Automatic transmissions are so good that they are better than a manual transmission in just about every way now. That means that manual transmissions are really just about the experience. I think that BMW is trying to nudge **** hardcore driving enthusiasts into realizing that the automatic transmission is actually better for driving.

Soon every car will have a 9-speed transmission. Maybe then people will be able to let go of their manuals.

It would be hard to let go. I can see for people that comute a lot automatic transmission would be best but for the times you want to feel and be one with the car than you would really have to go with the manual transmissions.

this is very true, only reason to go manual is if you want to feel more connected to the car, be one with it. Sadly it's being phased out and will probably be available in low trims of the 4 series but probably not the M4

Its time for all of us to pack our bags and look for E30 M3s.

Changing gears is a form of expression on par with art forms Its a pure business case from BMWs end, why would they want to manufacture an M4 with a stick shift if they know it wont be in demand... They would rather move all vehicles at maximum pop then have manuals left over that need to be moved with a discount or incentive...

90% of M4s will do duty as mall rats and starbucks jockeys, do you think those people care about pulse raising heel-toes or powershifting? These fools buy M4s/M3s as conversation pieces not becasue they enjoy the art of driving.

BMW has evidently figured out their clients are pulseless and have decided thier cars should be the same..
