Just received my 428i M-Sport

Got my 428i M-Sport on Wednesday afternoon and so far I am unbelievably impressed.

Black Sapphire paint, M sport brakes, adaptive suspension, adaptive steering, sport auto box, HUD, electronically folding mirrors, privacy ("sun protection") glass, black dakota leather interior, gloss black trim finisher, hexagon aluminium trim, 18" 441m alloys (I had 19" alloys on my previous 320i coupe and the appalling state of the local roads chewed them so I have gone for a bit of protection...and ride comfort), professional sat-nav, i-drive.

Obviously still running it in but I have tentatively dabbled with sport and sport plus mode and have seen it has considerable potential.

Initial impression is very, very positive.

congrats! I think you are the first on this forum.

What did you drive before?

How is the steering?
Congrats. One cannot go wrong with black/black.
Thanks, I drove an e92 320i M Sport before this. The 4 is a noticeably larger car physically, but not hugely so.
Took it for a longer run yesterday including motorway and it was a joy to drive I have always had manual gearboxes before, this is my first auto (Sport auto box) and to be honest I cannot see a return to a manual anytime in the future.
The adaptive suspension does a great job and the way everything tightens up when it's put into Sport mode is very cool.
I had wanted Imperial Blue but BMW said they would not take one off the line for a special paint job in the first 6 months so I chose black Sapphire instead with GardX finish and I'm glad I did, love it.
All in all hugely pleased so far.
In Comfort mode the steering feels slightly different to the E92 in that it's lighter, but not in a detrimental way.

However it gets suitably weighty in Sport and Sport Plus modes as the suspension and throttle response also tightens up noticeably and the engine gets more of a growl (love that!).

I have the adaptive steering which gets light at very low speeds at the limits of the turn, handy when parking but took me by surprise at first.

Turning circle is very good.
I'm not a huge fan of the steering being light and getting stiffer as you go faster. Maybe I'm not use to it. But it throws me off.

the saphire blue is a nice color but its a popular one.
black looks great when shiny and clean :)
The more I'm driving it the more I'm loving it. The adaptive steering is becoming increasingly instinctive and I would recommend it.

In fact the only add-on that I would not recommend is the sliding armrest. Only in as much as for £140 what was the point? It's not that its a bad thing its just not a lot of use for the money. Seemed like a good idea at the time.(Very minor point I know)

Other than that there is nothing bad to report thus far (touch wood).
Congrats very nice. I've seen a blk on blk luxury 428 and very sexy! I'm happy to hear your review since my 428M is almost here. Enjoy!
Very smart!! Nice to see some starting to hit driveways - it's been a long wait.
Is the launch control feature as exciting as the videos on YouTube suggest?
I'm only just over 300 miles into the 1200 miles recommended to "run the engine in" so I haven't tried it yet as the manufacturer recommends avoiding hard kick down and exceeding 100mph until then (Not that I would exceed the posted speed limit....obviously) so the launch control feature is on my to do list.
However I have done the occasional squeeze in sport plus mode and can confirm it takes off very nicely....and that wasn't even really trying. :)
got to see a black 428 xi for myself last weekend at the dealer

very nice color.. so shiny :D
That'll be a long 1200 mile wait! Haha
Glad it's as fun in real life as all the promotional material suggested.

Cracking looking motor!
so what are you going to do to keep it clean ? :D

gotta use some nice wax to keep it shiny.
I have had the GardX finish and so far all that is required is a standard wash and chammy leather to keep the shine.
I have had to wash it twice already as it has been raining quite a lot and the roads around here are filthy.
Plus it's black of course, and shows the dirt very quickly. But I knew what to expect. My first BMW was the 320si in Carbon Black and that was in a constant state of siege to keep it clean.
But black is a colour that rewards the effort made in cleaning it.
And Yes, the 1200 mile "run in" is killing me!
Opti Coat is one highly recommended product for people with brand new cars. Best way to protect your paint and even a way to help hold the vehicles value even more.

What is gardX and how much did it cost to do it?
how long is it supposed to last on your vehicle?
congrats on getting the old girl home :D now go drive the wheels off it ;) How do you like the F80s turbo 4 vs the I6 from the e90s??
Have you managed to get the first 1200 miles out the way yet mate?

Think it'll take me about 3-4 weeks before I can have a play with the L.Control!
Only at 853 miles so far. I have retired and bought the car so my traveling has reduced considerably.

GardX was about £130 and gives the paintwork a protective high gloss coating. I have used the GardX Conserver after washing it with Magifoam (from Autobrite) and have to say it works amazingly well.
Jetwash car off, cover in the foam (attaches to jetwash), leave for 20 minutes, jetwash off, sponge over with GardX conserver (takes 2 minutes), rinse off, chammy off. Done. Looks great. Very easy. I was going to photo it but it was dark when I finished. Recommend it.

I never drove a 6 cylinder model so I have no frame of reference. However I am very impressed by the acceleration and overall power. I have driven a couple of mates in it and they thought it was a V6!

So far so very good!
Mine arrived today, absolutely love it! Got 62mpg on way home and was still pressed with the pull.

Can't wait to get out on a proper drive at weekend.
