You'll need to go into your iDrive main menu and select Vehicle Info. Once there, select Check Control. Your message or messages will be displayed there.
Burning Smell
Just yesterday I noticed a burning smell (smells like a shirt being ironed) when I shut off the engine. No smoke or leaks visible. Oil gauge is normal. The only warning light on the dash is the little triangle with an exclamation point in the middle next to the engine oil gauge. Engine temp is normal. The lit warning signal is not defined in the owner's manual on page 83, bottom right. It only says, "At least one Check Control msg. is displayed or is stored". What the heck does that mean?
