I actually consider the new 2 series the new school E30, even E36. It's just as good and and will be just as iconic as them. Same with the 4 series but the 4 series is just on a whole nother level

Dimensionally, the new 2-Series is quite close to the E36. The 4 Series is as big as an E39 5-Series.
