BMW is joining automakers like Ford and Chrysler in expanding its Takata airbag recall nationwide. BMW has added 140,000 more model year 2004-2006 vehicles to the recall which already included 11,000 BMW 3-Series vehicles. The recall will focus on high-humidity states first, but will replace all driver side airbags across America eventually.
Ten automakers have now recalled over 14.6 million vehicles because of Takata airbags. Those airbags have been linked to 5 deaths and 50 injuries. All of those deaths occurred in Honda vehicles.
