The BMW 4-Series has been included in the 2014 North American Car of the Year long list. It faces tough competition, like the Jaguar F-Type, Mercedez-Benz CLA-Class, Maserati Ghibli, and the Chevrolet Spark EV. Last year's winner, Cadillac, also has two vehicles on the list, the CTS and the ELR. Kia and Chevrolet have the most entries on the list with 5 each.

The long list will be trimmed down to about 12 vehicles in the Fall, once all 50 jurors have had a chance to drive everything. This list will be narrowed down again to the top 3 before the winner is announced at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show.

What do you think of the list? Could the BMW 4-Series take home the big prize?

I feel like the BMW 4-Series will be able to make the short list. There is some competition, but BMW is still in the running. I think BMW has a better chance than Kia, Toyota, or Mitsubishi, that is for sure.

I am surprised that Tesla is not on the list. Anyone know why? Did it just not make it, or is it something to do with the rules?

it's one of the best cars on that list
too bad the M4 wasn't ready in time so it can also be on this long list and eventually the short list.
