While the BMW 4 Series has already been revealed for the most part in spy photos, today shots have surfaced of the newest 4 Series variant: the Gran Coupe.
Although it resembles a 3 Series GT, the low front nose, sweeping roof line and revised trunk tip off that it is indeed a 4 Series. This car will be the flagship of the 3 and 4 Series lineup aside from the M division cars, and is known as a Gran Coupe because it gets the same design lines as the coupe, while offering the convenience of a sedan with four doors. The 4 Series will be a few centimeters longer than its 3 Series counterpart, and offer edgier styling.
The 6 Series Gran Coupe borrows its style directly from the 6 Series Coupe, and can be had for a $1600 premium over the 2013 640i Coupe. Both of these attributes will carry over to the 4 Series, which will share its style with the 4 Series Coupe, and likely cost around $1600 more than the 435i Coupe.
A base 428i model will now come with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four cylinder making 245 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque, while a top-level 435i will get BMW’s turbo straight six that puts out 306 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque, both of which should be available as Gran Coupes. Eventually, an M4 Gran Coupe model will likely be released, with the tri-turbo engine that will go to work in the new M3.
