BMW has announced a host of upgrades for many vehicles in its lineup that will come into effect in summer 2015. These include new engine options for many models, as well as some new safety technologies and exterior colors. Here's how it will be affecting the BMW 4-Series.
Starting with engines, the BMW 4-Series Convertible and the BMW 4-Series Gran Coupe will be getting four-cylinder diesel engines featuring the latest BMW TwinPower Turbo technology. These models will also benefit from the new generation of four-cylinder diesel engines.
From July 2015, the 140 kW/190 hp diesel engine will be powering the BMW 420d Convertible. That increase in power, torque and efficiency will take the 420d Convertible from 0-100 km/h in just 8.1 seconds. Fuel consumption on average should be between 5.1 and 4.8 litres per 100 km.
The BMW 418d Gran Coupe will have the 110 kW/150 hp engine as the base engine. That should return a sprint time of 9 seconds, and fuel consumption of between 4.5 and 4.1 litres per 100 km.
Engines aren't where the updates stop though. The 4-Series has a few new options of exterior paint color from BMW Individual. These are Champagne Quartz metallic and Smokey Topaz metallic.
There are also many new features available. New-generation parking assist will be available. This helps the driver with the choice and use of both parallel and transverse parking spaces. The system recognizes a spot as viable if it exceeds the vehicle length by more than 80 cm or is at least 2.5 m wide.
Finally, BMW is offering owner's manuals through a phone app.
