The E92 was a great love affair, witnessed by my reluctance to part with it. I kept it in the fold for almost 7 years, so understood its moves pretty well. It was my preferred daily driver to the day the F32 showed up.

The 435 is definitely a new dance partner, but familiar in many respects. So the baseline learning curve is not such a big deal. The car seems more planted and more responsive in the parts of the envelope that get you to and from work. The technology it has makes the E92 seem dated by comparison. I'm 7 years older now, so I appreciate the finesse, but still like that raw edge the car can show. Toys like the Active Stop and Go cruise are integrated into the machine beautifully... and much appreciated every day on the commute.

I ordered it in July, so it was sight unseen and a mail order bride scenario. I worried about the steering / handling based on the F30 Forum feedback, but that was a waste of good effort. The steering / handling is different than the E92, but once you spend a few minutes with the car, you get it. I wouldn't go back. No one has to tell you it has a low C of G, wider track, stiffer frame, etc.. it's obvious when you drive it.

I have no idea if it's the packages on the car that make it or what, but so far, I really, really love the car I ordered.. Solid, planted, refined and smooth on the same day - whatever you want. It goes where you point it, stops when you ask it, scats when you suggest it.. Goldilocks 101 revisited.

good to hear those positive things you have to say about your 435!
have you been experience any issues with it or is it running flawlessly? usually first year vehicles show more issues than other older models.

All good, end to end. Zero issues so far. Given that the N55 has been around, as well as the bulk of the power train downstream, it's been pretty well vetted, I'm guessing.. The PPK is not that big a step, considering what some aftermarket suppliers have done, so.. I think of it as refinement on a solid baseline.. V 2.0 kind of thing.. more evolution than prototype.

On the other hand, I'm not naive about production line start-ups.. (I'm in that business).. so I'm prepared to have some things get called out along the way, but have never had BMW balk at "making good" that sort of thing over then last 4 cars or so. (The E92 had the initial Fuel Pump thing.. but that was it)

I'm from Canada.. We have both M Performance Packages.. Handling and Power. Our options have been there since they began taking Orders last summer. I think you get them next year?

Would you say the new 4 series handles better than the E92?

In the middle of the envelope, yes.. Haven't had it to the track, so can't say what the differences might be on the margins. But it feels a bit more solid, quick, precise than the E92. Keep in mind, it is not the base model, so I can't say how much the packages change things. There is quite a difference in the modes from Comfort to Sport to Sport+.

More noticeable than I remember from previous year's test /loaner rides in the F30.

Hi Lost Horizon, congrats on the purchase! I am curious if the PPK II option shows when you decode your vin? Mine has just been built and should be on its way here but when I run the VIN through the decoder it doesn't show up with the PPKII for some reason. I used this: http://www.bmwarchive.org/vin/bmw-vin-decoder.html and the last 7 digits of my VIN. I'm crossing my fingers they have installed it as I ordered it with it and its just doesn't show up on the vin decoder.

No, it doesn't.

I initially thought mine was done in Germany, but it actually turns out it was done in Canada. Regardless, you just need to look at your Power/Tach screen (and the exhaust) and if it's 400/400 with the M on the exhaust, you have it all.

Update: The car is the perfect machine for the road. I was thinking of getting an M4, but after a day in it, find that the 435 with the packages is just right. Perhaps I'm just getting old, but I found the M4 with the DCT and ride a bit harsh and over the top since I don't track my cars anymore.. well, maybe the FFR Shelby Cobra that was a group build once in a while.
