BMW has been named the overall winner at the Engine of the Year Awards 2015.
The German automaker accumulated four wins in this year’s International Engine of the Year Awards with the drive unit in the BMW i8 earning two class wins in addition to being named the overall winner. BMW also got a class win with the engine powering the BMW M3 and M4 models.
The BMW i8 unit was voted class winner with its three-cylinder BMW TwinPower Turbo gasoline engine that has 231 hp, while the overall powertrain claimed a class win as the best 'new engine.'
The M3 and M4 powerplant got the win in the 2.5- to 3.0-liter displacement category and helps solidify BMW’s performance potential of the Efficient Dynamics technology package. Since the Engine of the Year Awards were launched in 1999, the German automaker has secured 66 class and overall wins.
