2015 BMW M3, M4 to Have Optional Carbon-Fiber Seats

The next-generation BMW M3 and M4 models will have optional carbon-fiber backed seats, similar to those found in the BMW M3 CRT model.

The news comes after a prototype M3 was crashed at the Nurburgring and spy photographers were on hand to snap photos of the interior. The BMW M3 CRT (Carbon Racing Technology) shed nearly 150 lbs off the standard weight of the sedan and if the manufacturing is the same as before, the new M3 and M4′s seat backs will feature carbon fiber layers wrapped around a recycled-paper honeycomb.

BMW recently revealed more data on its upcoming new M3 and M4 models, which will make around 430 hp and will weigh around 200 lbs less than before. In addition, the M3 sedan model will gain a carbon fiber roof for its first time and will (despite rumors) continue to be offered with a 6-speed manual transmission as well as a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic.

Finally carbon fiber seats get on a production level in cars, before we had to source them from aftermarket brands. I just wouldn't be surprised if they cost as much or more than the aftermarket seats.

To me they are not the greatest looking seats but as long as they function its all that matters. It will be pricey for sure, I wonder if recaro had any doing with these seats.

No idea, it could be BMW themselves. If Lexus and Alfa Romeo can make their own monocoques I bet BMW can develop a racing seat for their vehicles. A lot of work already goes into the seats in their cars, would be surprised if they did the CF seats

Well there are no markings or labels so they could have been the ones who made it. all I can say is if you ever need a replacement that would suck or if someone broke in to steal them.

how i see if, it you can afford to buy a CF seat, you can afford a replacement. not everyone will buy one, it's for people who actually have the money for it that aren't draining their account for it.
