mirror caps vs mirror covers?

we all know the m performance carbon fiber mirror caps cost 700 (350 each) The carbon fiber mirror covers are much cheaper and look the same. But will I be able to see my blue paint under the cover if the hard cover just sticks to the top of the cap?

I purchased a set of replacement caps off of eBay for $249.00. I inquired prior to purchase if they were "just like OEM" and they of course replied "yes", guess what - they were right!!! The company is called emnotek motorsports. If you would like for me to take a pic and send it your way prior to making a decision - just let me know.

Excellent question. I've attached both the OEM and the aftermarket items as a reference.
